Bionic Solution Community Table
SITU was commissioned by Bionic Solution to design and fabricate a community table as a central feature of their New York headquarters.

This furniture piece consists of a two-tone Corian tabletop and a welded-steel frame. The translucent Corian surface is backlit with integrated LEDs which reveal a pattern based on a neural network, suggesting lines of connectivity across the 15-ft length of the table. Using a CNC router, we milled a relief of the neural pattern at varying depths on the table’s underside, which gives a shallow three-dimensionality to the image.
A colored section of Corian running down the length of the table houses a number of power outlets to support portable electronics. At standing height the steel frame remains visible, so we designed the structure with a single angle profile which is powder coated to match the surrounding finishes.
