Cooper Hewitt Reception Desk
For the 2014 reopening of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, we worked with DS+R’s design team to fabricate a custom solid surface reception desk.
Our process entailed deconstructing the design into 16 distinct pieces, thermoforming each piece out of solid surface and coupling this process with CNC-milling to join them back together with invisible seams. With a focus on enhancing the visitor experience within the museum, our fabrication work for this project included the creation of custom cabinetry and media displays to meet the needs of staff and visitors.
