SITU Research presents work on human rights violations in Nicaragua at Columbia University

February 20th 2019

On February 20, SITU Research joins members of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) to discuss their report on the violent repression of public protests in Nicaragua in April and May of 2018. The GIEI had planned to present its findings publicly in Nicaragua on December 20 but was prohibited from doing so by the government and forced to leave the country.

Prior to their removal, the GIEI asked SITU Research to develop an interactive platform that digitally reconstructs these complex events by mapping user-generated photo and video evidence in time and space. Our Research team is presenting our latest reconstruction at the event, which makes use of 3D modeling, geospatial mapping, ballistics analysis and animation to better contextualize the evidence.

The event is co-sponsored by the Seattle International Foundation, the Institute of Latin America Studies, Columbia University and the Latin American Students Association, Columbia University.
