Draper: Engineering Possibilities 2017
We worked with Robert de Saint Phalle to fabricate his design for the second annual Engineering Possibilities exhibition for research and engineering giant, Draper.
The three-day show was held at Draper’s Cambridge headquarters–in Massachusetts–where we had also produced the exhibition debut in 2016.
Using just a few materials, we fabricated a series of folded polygonal archways featuring digital displays and built-in seating. Standing 15 feet tall, these structures were composed of aluminum pipe frames and tightly fitted fabric. Display screens showcasing experimental technologies were mounted to aluminum plates that were fixed to the frames and then wrapped into the surface for a seamless integration.
The exhibits also incorporated graphic media by Charya Peou, which was printed directly onto the fabric, providing a richly layered experience. Because of their unique forms, the lightweight construction allowed for rapid installation and modifications that could be adapted on-site.
