SITU joins Archtober panel on transforming Brooklyn’s libraries through design

October 17th 2019

SITU Partner Brad Samuels participates in Transforming Brooklyn’s Libraries Through Design, a panel discussion about architecture’s role in facilitating the crucial role that public libraries play in local communities.

Public libraries have evolved far beyond their original books-only focus. With branches in almost every New York City neighborhood, today libraries also function as vital service providers and innovative knowledge centers. This event discusses this expanded role in the context of BPL and unpacks how architecture and design come into play.

Brad joins principals from Leroy Street Studio, Marble Fairbanks and Mitchell Giurgola, along with experts from BPL and the Center for an Urban Future, to share different design approaches to transforming local branches—from integrating affordable housing and environmental education to developing flexible community spaces for multiple locations. The conversation ultimately examines the larger impact of these projects and explores how these design-driven initiatives inform the future of libraries across Brooklyn.
