Partner Brad Samuels presents at UC Berkeley’s Landscape Architecture + Environmental Planning Lecture Series
October 9th 2019This talk presents SITU Research's work at the intersection of design, technology and human rights. Highlighting a range of recent projects in Ukraine, Mali, Nicaragua, the U.S. and elsewhere, SITU Partner Brad Samuels unpacks the expanded agency of the designer within a highly interdisciplinary model of practice. From spatial analysis of citizen-captured video to 3D reconstructions of urban sites of protest, the tools and methods of the designer are explored through applications in both legal and advocacy contexts. These examples provide a launching point to reflect on the spatial and societal implications of emerging technologies and how they are influencing design practice more broadly.
This lecture is part of an ongoing series organized by the Landscape Architecture + Environmental Planning (LAEP) department at UC Berkeley. The department is known for centering ecological integrity and social equity across its teaching, programs and other initiatives.
