Building TYME Capsule

Commissioned by TYME—a new company focused on radically changing fast food—SITU designed and fabricated the TYME Capsule, a pop-up food venue that launched in Times Square in July 2017.

With the capacity to serve over 1,000 meals a day out of 75 sq ft, we built the Capsule to support the efficiency and convenience of fast food service at a micro scale.

The Capsule’s organic rounded form is clad in cedar wood and engineered to support a tiny rooftop garden. With dimensions of 8 x 12 ft, the Capsule can fit on a flatbed truck, on a forklift and serve within almost any space. Under the wood cladding, a metal chassis stabilizes the modular components and supports the mobile structure as it travels to new locations.

Fabricated in our Brooklyn Navy Yard shop, the Capsule was built and installed in just a few weeks.
