SITU documentary TRACES shows at ADFF LA

June 23rd 2017

SITU's short documentary, TRACES, about artist Duke Riley's project Fly By Night, will be premiering at Los Angeles' Architecture and Design Film Festival as part of Dwell on Design. The film—done in collaboration with Patrick Mandeville—documents Duke Riley's 2016 project for Creative Time, Fly By Night.

At the call of a whistle, thousands of birds emerged from their home in a grand, converted historic boat docked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The pigeons circled above the river as the sun set over Manhattan, and small leg bands, historically used to carry messages, were replaced with tiny LED lights, illuminating the sky in a transcendent union of public art and nature. TRACES dives into Fly By Night, including an interview with the artist himself, Duke Riley.

The festival will run from June 23rd-25th at the Los Angeles Convention Center, with TRACES airing multiple times over the course of the weekend.
