One Jackson Square Lobby

KPF brought us on board to help develop an inventive material and production strategy for their lobby design of One Jackson Square, an award-winning residential building in Greenwich Village.

Echoing the building’s undulating facade, the bamboo lobby walls feature smooth curves and precise detailing.

In the early stages of schematic design, we worked closely with KPF to explore a range of materials and CNC fabrication techniques, as well as to develop full-scale mockups of various design iterations. From these studies emerged a unique fabrication process that efficiently uses standard sheet material and minimizes waste.

Each of the 65 panels is comprised of 185 bamboo strips, which are stacked together and CNC-milled to match the design’s single and double curvature.
